Glass Onion

Mr. Jones and I entered our movie-watching portion of the year last night with the witty, wry, and whimsical Glass Onion, a follow-up to 2019’s Knives Out (though knowledge of the first film is not required to enjoy this installment). Glass Onion, at once ridiculous and rewarding, is engaging from the first frame - and it doesn’t let up until all the layers have been peeled away in the explosive finale. (To be more specific would spoil the fun!) Everything about the film works - the intricate nonsense of the script (someone should compile a list of all the malapropisms), the contemporary baroque excess of the mansion, and spot-on performances from the entire cast - Daniel Craig as super-sleuth Benoit Blanc with his penchant for a jaunty cravat; Edward Norton doing his crazed genius schtick as Miles Bron, a Muskian bajillionaire; Kate Hudson, demonstrating a knack for comedy that she likely inherited from her mother, as the ex-model, Birdie J; and Janelle Monae, doing double duty in a role that just might lead to an Oscar nomination. There are also cameo appearances by many other famous faces, but you should discover those yourself while snacking on a blooming onion covered in Jeremy Renner’s Hot Sauce washed down by a cold bottle of Jared Leto’s Hard Kombucha. Glass Onion is a silly delight from start to finish.
